What is Micro-Perception In Depth (MPID)?
In Dr. Tham Hui Saan’s years of practice, she realized that the therapeutic effect of conventional acupuncture is not significant and unstable. Thus, she spent 10 years researching the shortcomings of conventional acupuncture and made improvements. During the process, she developed a unique method of palpation (using hand for) and inspection (observation examination) to detect subtle changes in human tissues. By analysing the biological information released from tissues’ changes, she was able to understand the patient’s condition.
Dr. Tham believed that this method of examination and analysis is a long-lost component of ancient medicine. In modern biomedical terms interpretation, it refers to the morphological examination of human tissues. Traditional Chinese medicine is renowned for its macroscopic perspective, while morphology belongs to a more detailed and subtle microscopic perspective, hence it is called Micro-Perception In Depth. The acupuncture method based on a microscopic perspective for treatment is named Palpation Guided Acupuncture (PGA).

Requirements for practitioner in Palpation Guided Acupuncture (PGA):
Practitioners who practice PGA are required to undergo long-term professional training to master methods of palpation and inspection accurately. With the combination of disease states analysis, one is able to identify the known and unknown characteristics of disease. Professional competence is enhanced through practising physical examination skills and certification is granted through assessment.
Grading of Micro-Perception in Depth (MPID):
Levels 1 to 4 are elementary level, and Levels 5 to 10 are professional level.
Advantages of Palpation-Guided Acupuncture (PGA):
PGA is an improved version of traditional acupuncture which can effectively identify the hidden root cause of the disease and provide a clearer understanding of the patient’s condition.

The impact of Palpation-Guided Acupuncture (PGA)
Within just a few years, Palpation-Guided Acupuncture (PGA) has received an overwhelming response from patients and the educational community/sector. To date, it has attracted patients from over 40 countries to travel to Malaysia for treatment. Our centre has expanded from 4 beds to 35 beds since 2012. This technique not only enables those who were incapacitated to work, returning to the workplace but also restoring the lives of people who have lost their ability to take care of themselves. Furthermore, this technique liberates people who had suffered from illness for decades.
The high efficacy of palpation-guided acupuncture (PGA) has led to research collaboration with University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and teaching activities at the International Medical University (IMU) in Malaysia. This technique has also attracted traditional Chinese medicine practitioners from countries around the world, including Japan, the United States, Switzerland, China, and Singapore, to come and learn.
As Dr. Tham said, “The pursuit of medical skills is endless. It is a priceless reward when seeing families who face difficulty smiling happily after they regain their health!”
